Our Partner, Rut Chamalé
Meet Rut Chamalé. Rut has a heart for the most vulnerable and needy children living in her own country of Guatemala, one of the poorest and most war‐torn nations in Central America. Guatemala has been devastated by organized crime and corruption with most of the population forced to live on less than $2 a day.
Mayans make up half of the population, living in isolated villages and avoiding outsiders due to the exploitation and abuse they have suffered. They struggle with illiteracy, child mortality and malnutrition. In the village of Cruz Blanca, hundreds of Mayan children lack the resources they need to attend public school.
VisionTrust began partnering with Rut Chamalé in 2008 to help these children. Today, Rut and her staff at the Cruz Blanca Learning Center are helping hundreds of children in the community, teaching them about God, providing them with food and giving them tutoring in math, Spanish and reading, so they can become the leaders of tomorrow in their country.
